The 2020 Vision

Aerial view of the campus

The partnership between the Trust, the University and the Medical Research Council has also conceived the ambitious masterplan, the 2020 Vision, for the long-term development of the campus as an international centre for biomedical research.

So far several developments have taken place under the 2020 Vision:

- scheduled for completion in 2007, the construction of the Addenbrooke’s Treatment Centre which will provide 128 beds and six theatres for day procedures and short-stay surgery

- the Cambridge Institute for Metabolic Science

- the new European headquarters for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) opened in February 2007– a significant development for our patients not only in the proximity of this facility but also in the benefits to be realised from the collaborative working relationships between CRUK, the hospital and the University

- the new Emergency Assessment Unit opened in 2006, centralising and re-designing emergency treatment for the patient
