The Disablement Services Centre
has undergone a revamp, with its new name, Addenbrooke’s
Rehabilitation Clinic (ARC) reflecting the service it provides.
“Years ago disabled people would not lead independent
lives,” says Michael Hewlett, the clinic’s manager. “Now
the work we do really promotes independence, and rehabilitation
suggests we get people back to where they were before.
“The clinic is now open longer hours. We are putting
patients first and meeting the needs of working people because
our users have changed a lot.”
The clinic, which provides a vital service for patients
who may have lost a limb, be a wheelchair user or require
other services to help them lead as full and active a life
as possible, will also see improvements such as bigger fitting
rooms to enhance the patient experience.
