PRESS RELEASE: 14 April 2005
Losing someone close to you can be a very traumatic experience. Whilst some people get through with the help and support of those close to them, others need a little additional care.
On Thursday 14 April, The Bereavement Care Services team at Addenbrooke's, in conjunction with the Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Strategic Health Authority, will be launching a Directory of Bereavement Care Services, which will bring together listings of organisations that can offer help. The launch will be taking place at Homerton College in Fulbourn, Cambridge between 1000 and 1530 hours, and anyone working in the field is invited to attend. However, space is limited, so to reserve a seat, please contact the bereavement care service administrator at Addenbrooke's on 01223 217 769.
Speaking about the new directory, Sandra Betterton, Head of Nursing at the Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Strategic Health Authority, said: "The Strategic Health Authority is pleased to have been able to support the development of the Directory of Bereavement Services across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
"I know this will be a valuable resource for both health professionals and the public. At a time of great sadness it is often difficult to identify the voluntary and NHS counselling support services that are available. The Directory will help to point people in the right direction so they can easily find the help they need."
The directory will be available for all those professionals, both from the statutory and voluntary sector, who work with bereaved people who may need on-going support. It will include listings of both local and national organisations, details of the support they can offer, as well as flow charts indicating different levels of help available, which will help to match a person's level of need to a particular service.
