A group of children from Kenya has travelled all the way to Addenbrooke's Hospital to join forces with child patients here in a special art project. This week (Monday 15-Friday 19 August 2005), the children are working in the Jubilee Garden to create two mosaic panels which will be put on display at the hospital.

The children, aged between nine and 15, are members of the Juhudi Children's Club in Nairobi, Kenya, which provides school-age children with opportunities that they would not normally experience at school, and is led by artist Jim Anderson. They will be joined by children from Wards C2 and D2 at Addenbrooke's Hospital in creating the colourful mosaics made mostly from recycled materials.

Guy Noble, Art Curator at Addenbrooke's, said: "Addenbrooke’s Arts is thrilled to be involved in this project, which brings together two cultures in a creative endeavour to help provide an uplifting, and stimulating hospital environment for all patients, visitors and staff."

The mosaic panels will be installed at the hospital in a special ceremony on Wednesday 24 August 2005, attended by Sir Edward Clay, the former High Commissioner of Kenya.
