Nine-year-old Isobel Sale, an inpatient at the hospital's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), has raised hundreds of pounds for Children in Need by baking cakes and selling them on the unit.

Isobel, from Hadham in Norfolk, has been an inpatient since July when she injured her neck in an accident. Despite being confined to a bed or chair and reliant on a ventilator, she wanted to help other children by raising money for Children in Need. In total, Isobel raised just over £300.

Isobel explained: "One of the nurses at PICU gave me the idea, so I asked Christine the play specialist to help. If I was at home I would have done something to help Children in Need. I made chocolate chip, blueberry, plain and raisin cakes. Chocolate chip went down really well! It was fun!."

Isobel's consultant, Dr Sarah Morely, said: "We are all really proud of Isobel. Despite needing to be in PICU on a breathing machine for almost five months, she has thought a lot about helping other children and worked hard to raise this money for Children in Need. Isobel sold her cakes to almost everyone who came to the unit and raised sponsorship money from others. She was helped by our great team of nurses and therapists and especially by Christine Baines, our play specialist."
