Nursery nurses clock up over 100 years!

Five nursery nurses who work in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) have clocked up over 100 years’ service. Jo Hall, Jeanette Clark, Elaine Nichols, Joy Thompson and Chris Johnson have all worked on the unit for over 20 years each. Their many tasks include running the low-dependency nursery and the milk kitchen, working with babies who have got better and organising eye screening for their tiny patients.

Joy Thompson, who has worked on NICU for almost 30 years, said, “I’ve always loved working here and can’t imagine not doing it. I came for a three-month trial…but I’ve stayed here for 30 years!”

Carolyn Judge, Service Delivery Manager for NICU, paid tribute to the nursery nurses saying, “It is truly remarkable to have such dedicated long-serving members of the team. The support they provide to staff and parents alike is hugely valuable.”
