Governor election results announced

The results of the hospital's NHS Foundation Trust governor election were announced today (Thursday 19 May 2005).

Left to right: Colin Greenhalgh, Vice-Chairman, and Michael Monk, Patient Governor

Over 22,000 patients, staff and members of the public who had become members of Addenbrooke’s Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust were eligible to vote during the elections, which ran from 26 April to 18 May.

Three patient governors, two public governors and one staff governor were elected this year. In the first election for governors which took place in March 2004, appointments to the Board were phased for one, two and three years according to the number of votes received by each candidate, in order to ensure that not all governors are subject to re-election at the same time. Governors elected in the 2005 elections have all been elected to the Board for a three-year term. In total eight patient governors, seven public governors and four staff governors serve on the Board of Governors.

Speaking about the elections, Colin Greenhalgh, Addenbrooke's Vice-Chairman, said: "I'd like to thank all the candidates for standing, and to congratulate the successful ones and commiserate the unsuccessful ones."

Governors of the NHS Foundation Trust help determine the strategic direction of the Trust and represent the voice of the public, patients and staff at the highest level, forming a link between the members of the NHS Foundation Trust for the local community.
