PRESS RELEASE: 26 October 2005

Cookbook produced in memory of hospital colleague

Pink is definitely the colour at Addenbrooke’s with the launch of a very special cookery book on Monday 31 October to tie in with this month’s national Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The Pink Cookbook has been produced by staff from Addenbrooke’s operating theatres and is being sold in memory of colleague Marie-Louise Barker who worked in main theatres. ML as she was known, died this time last year of breast cancer, aged only 30. All the proceeds will go towards the breast cancer research unit at Addenbrooke's.

Speaking about the book, friend and colleague Ros Jackson said: “ML was always full of life and fought to make the most of each second of each day towards the end of her life. This book is compiled in her memory in recognition of her bravery, for the loss of a friend and for all those who have breast cancer or who have lost a friend or relative to breast cancer.”

There are over 70 recipes in the book, mostly from theatre staff, but also from celebrities including Cherie Booth QC (Patron of Breast Cancer Care), Dr Mary Archer (Chair of Addenbrooke’s Hospital), jockey Frankie Dettori and the Blue Peter presenters. Recipes from local restaurants like the Pink Geranium, Wimpole Hall and Steven Saunders at Sheen Mill, Melbourn also make an appearance.

Copies of the book can be purchased from the Addenbrooke’s Concourse or Outpatients during November, otherwise you can contact Katherine Tester, on 01223 217408 or via email: pinkcookbook@hotmail.co.uk
