Harry Potter actor adds sparkle to children's party

Warwick Davis, the actor who plays Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter films, dropped in to add some magic and sparkle to the Cambridge Cleft Lip and Palate Asocation's (CLAPA) party held at Addenbrooke's Hospital recently (4 September 2005). The party was held for children who have been treated by the Addenbrooke's Cleft Lip and Palate Team, and they attended with their families from all over the East Anglia region.

The children had a wonderful time meeting each other and were entertained by a children's clown, face painting, a bouncy castle and a raffle to raise funds.

Warwick Davis as Professor Dodgywig 'operates' on Mr Per Hall, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Warwick Davis led several of the children in a medical drama where they turned tables on their surgeon, Per Hall. He played the part of Professor Dodgywig and led his junior surgeons through a hilarious teaching session on the fundamentals of surgery. The audience, all children and families who have been through the stresses of surgery themselves, were delighted at Per Hall's bravery in volunteering to become the patient for once. The next CLAPA - Cambridge Party will be a Winter Wonderland Party on 3 December 2005, again at the Frank Lee Centre.

The Cleft.Net.East Network based at Addenbrooke's provides a centre for excellence for the region's cleft lip and palate patients, offering care and support from birth right through to adulthood. It is a 'hub and spoke' service, where patients can be seen at Addenbrooke's (the 'hub') for surgery and special clinics, receiving part of their regular care, for example speech and language therapy, at more local centres ('spokes'). The core team travels to nine local hospitals for joint clinics with local specialists. The team is multidisciplinary, including roles such as plastic surgeon, psychologist and nurse specialist.
