PRESS RELEASE: 03 April 2006

The next stage in Addenbrooke’s long-term development plan for the hospital campus – the 2020 Vision – is about to take a major step forward with submission of an outline planning application – and members of the public can find out all about it at a drop-in information session hosted at Addenbrooke’s on Friday 7 April.

The 2020 Vision is a product of the partnership between Addenbrooke’s Hospital, the University of Cambridge and the Medical Research Council and sees further development of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus – an international centre of excellence for leading-edge clinical care, teaching and research.

The past couple of years have seen this plan taking shape with the building of the Cancer Research UK building; the hospital’s Elective Care Centre and most recently, the approval for the relocation of Papworth Hospital to the campus.

This next stage sees the 2020 Vision begin to develop in the wider context of developments on the southern fringe of Cambridge including additional housing, transport links and other developments.

Working with the 2020 Vision developers, Liberty Property Trust and Countryside Properties PLC, the Trust has been leading this stage of the planning process to promote the 2020 Vision development through the regional, county and local planning processes and consequently, outline planning application for the whole of the 2020 development is due to be submitted shortly.

As part of this process the Trust is hosting a drop-in information session at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in the Boardroom, on Friday 7 April 2006 between 0900 hrs and 1830 hrs.

Members of the public will be able to take a look at displays about the 2020 Vision including information on the planning process; the expansion of the hospital campus; planned buildings; transport and housing proposals. Members of hospital staff and the developers will be on hand to answer questions.
