Chief Nursing Officer Chris Beasley visited Addenbrooke's this week (Tuesday 17 January 2006) to meet staff and see some of the latest developments at the hospital.

Chris Beasley toured several of the wards and met modern matrons and other members of staff who talked about their work.

One of the new developments Chris Beasley visited was the site of the new Emergency Assessment Unit, which will provide one ‘front door’ for patients where they will be assessed by an integrated multi-professional team including doctors, nurses and other staff who will make early decisions about treatment and care.

Speaking about the visit, Chris Beasley said: "I was delighted to be able to visit Addenbrooke's and to see the innovative approaches being taken to improve patient care. The commitment of staff to the new ways of working was very impressive."

Margaret Berry, Addenbrooke's chief nurse, said: "It was a great pleasure to welcome Chris to the Trust again. As the Chief Nursing Officer for England, I wanted her to meet some more of our staff and see for herself some of the new developments at the hospital.”

Chris Beasley was appointed as Chief Nursing Officer in October 2004 and is the Director within the Department of Health with the lead for Patient and Public involvement, the Allied Health professionals and Healthcare Scientists. She is also the lead director for the voluntary and community sector.
