Anthony Horowitz, best-selling author and creator of teenage spy Alex Rider, visited Addenbrooke’s Hospital on Tuesday 20 June as part of the Children’s Party at the Palace outreach programme to celebrate the Queen’s 80th birthday, in partnership with the Roald Dahl Foundation.

The hour-long event involved Anthony reading from his Alex Rider series to a group of children, as well as discussing his writing and inspirations, and answering questions. The aim of the event was to bring some of the magic of the Party at the Palace to those unable to go.

The Children’s Party at the Palace is a unique event, in the year of Her Majesty’s 80th Birthday, held on Sunday 25 June at Buckingham Palace to celebrate British children’s literature. The special tea party and live show, held in the garden of Buckingham Palace, will include favourite story book characters such as Winnie the Pooh, Peter Rabbit, Mary Poppins and Paddington Bear.

The event also celebrated the work of the Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse at Addenbrooke’s, Lynn Clack, who is supported by the Roald Dahl Foundation, and her team. Lynn’s achievements include setting up a clinic to work with teenagers who have seizures, helping them learn how to understand and manage their condition, and providing them with the knowledge and skills to make safe lifestyle choices for themselves as they become more independent.

Speaking about the event, Lynn Clack said: “It was fantastic to have Anthony here, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling session. We had some real fans in the audience, so it was a special treat for them to meet Anthony.”
