Dr Gareth Goodier starts his new role as chief executive of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (which includes Addenbrooke’s Hospital) today, Monday 4 September. He takes over from Malcolm Stamp, who was chief executive of the trust from 2003 until the end of May 2006, when he left to take up the post of chief executive of a health board in New Zealand. Dr Robert Winter has been acting chief executive in the interim.

Dr Goodier has extensive health service and commercial experience both in England and Australia, and joins Addenbrooke’s at a time of notable achievements, improved performance, and of development.

After qualifying as a doctor in 1975 and working in the north of England, Dr Goodier spent many years in Australia as chief executive of a number of major hospitals and health services. He returned to England in 2003 to take up the post of chief executive at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust and since 2004 has been heading up the North West London Strategic Health Authority.

Gareth said at the time of his appointment: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the team at Addenbrooke’s and look forward to the challenges a busy Foundation Trust and teaching hospital holds.”
