The hospital has been recognised as one of the UK’s top 100 employers, in a list that includes private healthcare providers, care homes, and the armed forces as well as the NHS. The ratings are based on responses to questionnaires sent to nurses across the country. “All patients know that good nursing is a huge part of good healthcare,” says Lyn McIntyre, the hospital’s Assistant Director of Nursing. “I’d like to pay tribute to the fantastic staff at the hospital – we know how hard they work and we really value what they do. This award demonstrates that we’re well on the way to becoming the best possible employer for nurses – and that’s good news for patients as well as staff.” The judges said: “This is a big trust with a national and international reputation for clinical excellence. Nursing staff are a key part of that. It has also been proactive in helping nurses find and fund accommodation in a high-cost area.” The award comes on top of the news that Addenbrooke’s is the country’s leading NHS teaching hospital and research institution, rated ‘excellent’ and ‘best performing’ by the Healthcare Commission.
