Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie: leading the way to choice

From April 1 this year, when patients are referred to hospital by their GP they’ll be able to choose to go anywhere in England for treatment. For people in and around Cambridge, we hope the decision will be easy: choose Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie.

Cambridge University Hospitals – which is made up of Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie – has now been identified as the country’s leading NHS trust.

Dr Gareth Goodier, the Trust’s Chief Executive, says:

“In the last year, we’ve been recognised by the Healthcare Commission for providing excellent quality of services and excellent use of resources. Another review compared our maternity services to the national picture and rated them as ‘best performing’. Only six hospitals scored so well – and of those six leading hospitals, we’re the only one that’s been singled out by the Department of Health as both a teaching hospital and a flagship biomedical research centre. That means patients coming here know that they’re being treated by the best team in the NHS.

“Increased choice is a great step forward for patients. For us, it means opening our doors to more people from across the country who choose to come here for world-class treatment. Our cancer care is second to none. We’ve got the best diabetes team in the country. Transplant surgery is going from strength to strength. And as the hospital grows, as we plan new facilities like the Children’s Hospital, all our other services will grow as well – and for people in the area, access to specialist healthcare facilities right on their doorstep will be getting better every year.

“And whilst all this is going on, I want people to know that everyone here is dedicated to putting patients and their families at the centre of everything we do, listening to what they want, and providing them with the safe, effective care they expect. First and foremost, we are the local hospital for Cambridge.”
