Why are prices changing?

All the car parks at the hospital are self-funding which means that no money which is intended for patient care is spent on providing and improving parking facilities and access services.

The increase in charges will be put towards:

  • Providing additional parking spaces at the hospital (over 250 extra spaces) for patients and visitors who really need them (e.g. the ill, the elderly, the frail, people who do not have access to public transport). The majority of these extra spaces will be available in the new multi-storey car park which will open on 18 April 2008.

  • Funding and improving the Addenbrooke’s H1 Shuttle Bus

  • Car park maintenance and security

  • Train and bus ticket discounts

  • Car parking concession tickets

  • Improving public footpaths and cycle paths

  • Improving road markings and signage on-site

  • Providing raised pedestrian crossings around the site to improve safety

  • Improving disabled access and parking spaces

  • Plans to develop secure cycle and motorcycle parks
