For the seventh year in a row, Cambridge University Hospitals – the NHS trust that includes Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie – has been named as one of the country’s top 40 hospitals.

The league table, which looked at 20 key performance indicators, was compiled by CHKS – the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services.

The judges also singled out Addenbrooke’s for a special award for the quality of its patient care. This was the first year that this new award has been made.

Dr Gareth Goodier, the hospital’s Chief Executive, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve done so well. It’s great news, and it shows just how hard all our staff have been working to keep us at the top. We’ve had a year of unprecedented activity, but this is a good time for Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie. We want to be the best possible hospital for the people of Cambridgeshire.”

James, Coles, Director of Research at CHKS, said: “Patients rely on their local hospital to provide appropriate treatment at the right time. Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has achieved exceptional standards in the delivery of patient care.”

The awards come on top of the news that Addenbrooke’s is the country’s leading NHS teaching hospital and research institution, rated ‘excellent’ and ‘best performing’ by the Healthcare Commission.
