Follow the 10 easy
steps to help reduce infection:
-
Clean your hands when entering or leaving a ward or
clinic, even if you don't have any patient contact.
-
Clean your hands before and after every patient contact.
-
Keep your working area clean, tidy and clutter-free.
-
Be seen to be clean - let patients and visitors see
you clean your hands.
-
Check that there's always alcohol hand rub in dispensers,
and report any empties straightaway.
-
Encourage patients and visitors to use the alcohol hand
rubs.
-
If you see something that needs tidying, report it.
-
Be able to explain what we are doing to reduce hospital
infections and reassure those who are concerned - read
and hand out the information sheet on this website.
-
If you wear a uniform, check the policy and stick to
it.
-
Leave infections at home - don't bring them to work.
Seek advice from your manager or GP.
Clinical staff: please refer to your more detailed
