Addenbrooke's User Groups

Acoustic Neuroma and Meningioma Network
An Addenbrooke's-based self-help group that aims to improve the quality of life for existing, past and new patients who have acoustic neuroma and/or meningioma.



Addenbrooke’s Kidney Patient Association

Addenbrooke’s Liver Transplant Association (ALTA)
Patients lead this group and staff attend. Patients feed back on service improvements and carry out fundraising activities. Further information can be obtained from

Breast cancer support group
This new group is for women who have been treated at Addenbrooke's for breast cancer and who want to talk about their experiences in a supportive environment, sharing them with women who have been through the same thing. They welcome anyone wishing to attend and hope that those joining the group will help the group develop a programme of talks and activities for future meetings of interest to all. Breathe-easy (Department of Respiratory Medicine)
A monthly patient-centred support group. This was set up by specialist nurses but is now run by patients and facilitated by staff. Patients invite speakers, organise fundraising activities and produce a newsletter.

Crohn’s Support Group
This is the local branch of a national organisation. Both staff and patients are involved. Patients feed back on services.

COPARS (Childhood Cancer Organisation for Parents and Relative Support)
A support group for parents. It is run by parents with staff input. Parents can feed their views and constructive criticisms to staff. They also take part in fundraising.

Rehabilitation Clinic Users Group
This is held twice a year. A structured meeting to discuss everything to do with the centre including services, complaints, finances and contractors.



Oral & Maxillofacial About Face patient support group.
This group aims to increase the awareness of mouth and facial cancers and facial deformaties. It also raises funds for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Addenbrooke's. To contact the group, ask at the clinic reception (Department home page).

Prostate Cancer Support Group
The Prostate Cancer Support Group has been set up to support and represent all parties in the Region who are concerned with prostate cancer and its treatment.

The aims of the meetings are to provide:

Support and information for patients and their families;

An improved service for GPs and patients;

Discussion on research into prostate cancer.

Meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month at 1930 hrs at Addenbrooke's Hospital (usually either in the Clinical School or in the Boardroom). The Group sends out flyers to patients/members.

The meetings are either informal or have a guest speaker, and they are attended by members of the .

SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society)
A self-help group for those who have experienced stillbirth and neonatal death. Bereaved parents can discuss their feelings with people who have been through a similar ordeal. Sarcoma UK

Sarcomas are a group of rare cancers and together account for only 1% of all cancers diagnosed in the UK. Sarcoma UK was set up in response to the need for reliable UK specific information to support sarcoma patients being treated in the NHS. It was founded by Roger 'Wilson who was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma in 1999. There is a very informative website and a strong email support group.
