Patient and public involvement Putting patients first is our priority here at Addenbrooke's. Involving them, their carers and the public in all that we do has become an integral part of our culture and everyday thinking. The NHS Plan established the Government's clear intention that patients should be 'at the heart of the NHS'. It sees public and patient involvement as central to service planning and provision, and a major catalyst for service improvement. The benefits of involvement are for everyone - better outcomes of health care, a better hospital environment, a more 'open' philosophy on the part of the hospital, increased patient satisfaction, more responsive and cost-effective health care services, and a strengthening of public confidence in the services provided by the Trust Patients and the public can become involved in what we do through many routes.
