...will apply research into cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer development to early detection, matching of treatment to the individual patient, and to the development of more effective treatment through experimental studies which investigate the molecular and cellular basis for treatment, resistance and response. This approach will be applied to programmes of research that bridge the laboratory and clinic in upper gastro-intestinal, genito-urinary, breast, lung and haematological malignancy. These clinically focused groups will use generic basic science and technology to develop specific applications to their cancer sites, importing key clinical questions and exporting applications to the clinic.
