About

Honorary contracts are required by anyone who wishes to undertake research, carry out work or observe work at Addenbrooke’s but who does not hold a substantive employment contract or a volunteer contract with the Trust.

The contract ensures that they are covered by NHS indemnity, and that they are contractually bound to take proper account of the NHS duty of care. This may include:

University employees

Employees of Research Organisations or Pharmaceutical Companies

Employees of other NHS organisations or private hospitals

Students on work placements or undertaking research (except medical students)

Please note this list is not exhaustive so if you are unsure whether an honorary contract is needed please seek advice from:

Please refer to the honorary contract Policy and Procedure for details of the honorary contracts process.

Please note that the pre-employment checks required for honorary contracts are the same as those for appointing substantive employees and take around eight weeks to be processed. Therefore, applications must be submitted at least eight weeks prior to commencement to enable these checks to be undertaken and the honorary contract applicant will not be allowed to start until the checks have been completed and the honorary contract issued.

attention!

Please note that the R&D Department only check that all the documentation is correct before sending it on to the recruitment department, they will then be responsible for issuing the contract.
