How we help patients at Addenbrooke's

  • Early identification of patients at risk of deterioration aims to ensure early intervention and early appropriate therapy.

  • Supporting ward staff in the care of the acutely ill patient through advice and working with staff.

  • Supporting patients and dispelling anxieties that they may have when transferred to and from the intensive care units.

  • Ensuring safe and timely transfers between ICU and the wards

Teaching/Education

We provide formal and informal teaching programmes covering a variety of clinical skills which enable ward staff to develop and build on their own expertise.

Using a systematic teaching format enables staff to recognise when a patient is deterioating rapidly and to provide appropriate care to prevent unnecessary Critical Care admissions.

We assist and support staff with the implementation of Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) throughout the hospital. This tool aims to aid early identification of the deteriorating patient.
