The John Farman Intensive Care Unit
is located at the far end of Ward D3
on Level 3. To enter Ward D3, ring
the buzzer on the intercom
(circled in red above)
and wait for a member of staff to
release the door for you.

From the main hospital concourse (which is on Level 2 of the building), cross the link corridor (passing the hairdressers on your left) and take a lift to Level 3 (or the stairs next to them) to the third floor. Turn left out of the lift on Level 3, and Ward D3 is through the first set of double doors on your right.

Ward security: For the security of both patients and staff, the doors to Ward D3 are always locked. To enter, ring the buzzer labelled ‘ICU’ on the intercom (situated at shoulder height on the left hand side of the door, see the photo above). Wait for someone to reply, and tell them you are a relative/friend of a patient on ICU.

The door is controlled by ICU staff, who can see you on a closed-circuit TV. Note, staff of Ward D3 are not responsible for letting you in. Sometimes you will need to be patient, it can take some time for a member of the ICU staff to let you in because they might be busy looking after patients or talking to relatives.

The red transparent arrow leads to
the visitors’ room and visitors’ toilet.

Proceed through Ward D3 to the far end of the corridor, and through the first set of doors at the end to the entrance foyer of the Intensive Care Unit. Here, you will find another bell. Please ring this bell and wait to be attended to by a member of the ICU staff. Tell the member of staff who you are and which patient you are visiting. The member of staff will then check to see if it is convenient, and will either ask you to wait until you are called in the Visitors’ Room or will welcome you in.
