The Department of Tissue Typing (Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) is a regional specialist pathology discipline providing a histocompatibility and immunogenetics service for the East Anglia region. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing, cross matching and antibody screening are performed in support of the supra-regional kidney, liver, cardio-thoracic and bone marrow transplant programmes. HLA typing is also performed to identify susceptibility genes as an aid to disease diagnosis.
