How do pregnancy tests work?

Pregnancy tests can tell you if you are pregnant but they are not always accurate during the earliest stages of a pregnancy. Most of them test for special hormones in your urine, pee. They can usually be used from the day your period was due.

I have had a positive test but a more recent one is negative, what does this mean?
Some pregnant girls or women have a positive test but then a negative one later on, this can be because the pregnancy has been spontaneously 'lost'. This is often the body's way of preventing a pregnancy of a damaged embryo, and doesn't mean that future pregnancies will be problematic.
