Audiology is concerned with the science of hearing, particularly diagnostic testing and the rehabilitation of hearing-impaired individuals.

The Audiology Department at Addenbrooke's provides a comprehensive service to patients who have problems with their hearing and/or balance.

Where is Audiology?

The Department is situated close to the entrance to Outpatients on level 2 of the Hospital (to the right of the newsagent, if you are facing it); if in doubt, do ask at the reception desks in the Hospital.

Audiology services:

Hearing Aid Service (both NHS and private) (frequently asked questions) Approximately 14 000 adults and 250 children are hearing-aid clients of the Department. An open-access hearing-aid repair service is available each day.

Hearing Therapy Service (frequently asked questions) Patients who have hearing impairment can have their disability assessed and an individual programme of rehabilitation created.

Paediatric Audiology Services (frequently asked questions) Children who have both permanent and temporary hearing impairments are offered appropriate assessment and management in a family- and child-friendly environment.

Tinnitus Service (frequently asked questions) A Tinnitus Clinic has been offered since 1985; it is one of the best established in the UK, and offers modern management strategies for this symptom.

Vestibular Services (frequently asked questions) Patients who have problems with balance undergo careful medical and assessment. If it is appropriate, they are enrolled in a rehabilitation programme.
