Where is the Maxillofacial Laboratory?

The Maxillofacial Laboratory is situated on Level 3 of Outpatients, it is at the back of Clinic 8. The Orthodontics Laboratory is part of the Maxillofacial Laboratory and provides a comprehensive service to the orthodontists who are based in the Department at Addenbrooke's.

Maxillofacial prosthetists and technologists (MPTs) construct prostheses and surgical appliances for patients. These are either from a prescription or after discussion with the medical team who are concerned with the patient's rehabilitation.

Who uses the technical service provided by the Maxillofacial Laboratory?
Patients are generally referred from Addenbrooke's Departments of:

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including the Orthodontics, Cleft Lip and Palate, and Facial Deformity (orthognathic) Clinics (home page);

  • Plastic Surgery;

  • Burns;

  • Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT);

  • The Eye (ophthalmic) Department (home page);

  • Oncology (home page);

  • Neurosurgery;

  • or direct from their general practitioners (GPs)
