The Urology Department can only accept referrals from general practitioners (GPs) or from other hospital consultants. Patients should visit their GP in the first instance, who can decide whether a referral to the Department is necessary.
About waiting lists
Like other departments, we have waiting lists for many clinics. If you are concerned that your appointment is too far in the future, please contact your GP in the first instance. If your condition has changed, your GP might decide to contact the Department on your behalf to accelerate the appointment. We discourage patients from contacting the Department at this point, because your GP is the best person to advise you on the urgency of your condition and can describe to us your symptoms and/or other factors.
Before your outpatient appointment
To speed up the process, patients might be asked to undergo some investigations in advance of their first Urology Outpatient Clinic appointment. Your appointment letter will tell you when and where to attend for these tests. We can then discuss the results of your tests at your first appointment. For some of our clinics, you will be given information in advance about what is likely to happen. You might also be asked to complete a questionnaire about your symptoms to bring with you to clinic.
