Comments about aquanatal

Welcome to our website, which has been compiled by midwives from the Rosie Hospital and the Community who teach aquanatal classes.

What is aquanatal?

Aquanatal is a water-based class that has been especially designed for pregnant women. The classes take place in a swimming pool and are taught by midwife instructors who have undertaken an aquanatal training course.

Each class lasts for about 40 minutes and is set to music. The class starts with a warm-up section to loosen muscles and avoid strains, and then moves on to an aerobic section, where the pace of exercising is increased to improve general fitness and strengthen muscles. We use a variety of floats, hand mitts and woggles (long foam tubes) to assist this. All the equipment is provided. We also teach correct posture, breathing and relaxation techniques.

Because the classes are set to music and are water-based they are great fun and not hard work.

Please let us know what you think of our aquanatal service, especially if you have suggestions for ways we can improve it. Let us know at the classes or contact us via Rosie Reception Tel: 01223 217 617. We would also like to hear from other midwives who run similar services.
