Welcome to the NICU

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is based in the Rosie Hospital. It is a specialist neonatal unit that admits more than 700 babies each year and is the lead centre in Anglia for the provision of neonatal intensive care. We receive referrals for the most critically ill neonatal babies in the Region and, if necessary, from outside of Region. The transitional care ward (Sara Ward) admits a further 600 infants every year.

We care for all sick newborn babies - including those who are born only on the edge of viability. We aim to support the family throughout their baby's stay and encourage parents to become involved in their baby's care. Having our own Community Team means that babies from the local area can have continued care at home, if necessary.
