Accessible abstract art

Running from Wednesday 28th April to June, a new exhibition displaying the work of two popular local artists will be unveiled in the corridor between the main hospital concourse and the Rosie/ATC.

Clare Crouchman and Melanie Max use very different approaches to provide an offbeat take on the landscape of East Anglia. Clare creates ceramic wall pieces using stone and porcelain while Melanie draws on her background as a sculptor to develop a depth and vibrancy to her abstract paintings. Both produce artwork which is bright and dynamic and very popular with serious collectors and the wider public.

Delia Delderfield
Peter Cavaciuti

Two local artists inspired by two different Cultures

Peter Cavaciuti, professional artist and lecturer studied Chinese and Japanese painting under the leading artists in this field. He has continued to research and study Japanese culture and aesthetics, especially Cha No Yu (The Art of Tea) and Zen which have contributed to the colouring, subject matter and compositional formats of his painting. Peter works with Chinese ink and traditional pigments on handmade paper to create delicate Japanese still life’s and floral images. He has exhibited in England, Japan, Switzerland and Belgium and has shown frequently at The Royal Academy and The Royal Watercolour Society.

Graduating in illustration and etching, Delia Delderfield went on to travel and was so taken by Greece in the 1970s she set up home and studio there for over 10 years.  Her way of etching on to copper plate gives an impression of a very fine veil of colour, similar to a watercolour.

In her own words: “Greece never fails to inspire me, the combination of light and texture is unique. I have become obsessed by the timeless quality of the old family houses in Corfu often hidden from view in wonderfully wild and neglected grounds - I wish I could record them all.”

Robin & Isobel Stemp

Photography and Painting Exhibition

This month we welcome a combined photographic and watercolour painting exhibition by two local artists, mother and daughter, Robin and Isobel Stemp.

The weather, view and Isobel’s emotional response play an important part in how she interprets landscapes. Isobel aims to convey a sense of joy and colour in her loosely applied watercolour paintings.

Natural light is essential for Robin’s unusual photography and why many of the images have the time and date they were taken as the titles. Robin creates minimalist interiors in miniature, allowing the natural shifting light onto the scene for its varying colours and intensity.
