The hospital Chapel is in the Main Concourse area,
where it is well-signposted and accessible to people
using wheelchairs. It is open 24 hours a day, and is
used by patients, relatives/carers and staff as a place
of quiet, prayer and reflection.
Services in the Chapel
Sundays 1100 hrs:
On Sunday mornings there is a service of Christian worship
led by one of the chaplains. All patients, relatives/carers
and staff are welcome to attend - it usually includes
Holy Communion and lasts around 45 minutes.
This service is also broadcast on Channel 6 of Patientline.
Help getting to the Chapel:
Volunteers from the Chaplaincy can provide wheelchair
transport to and from the Chapel. If inpatients would
like this assistance, please ask a member of the ward
staff to contact the office (hospital extension 3769)
- if the answer phone is on, please leave the patients
name and ward.
Bedside Communion:
For patients who are too unwell to come down to the
Chapel, a member of the chaplaincy can visit them for
communion at their bedside on a Sunday morning from
0900 hrs. Please ask a member of the ward staff to contact
the office (hospital extension 3769) - if the answer
phone is on, please leave the patients name and ward.
Mondays 1200hrs:
Each Monday lunchtime, there is a Mass for the Catholic
Community, celebrated in the chapel by the Roman Catholic
Chaplain. Everyone, regardless of faith, is welcome
to attend this Mass. The service lasts around 30 minutes.
Wednesdays at 1215 hrs:
An informal mid-week service is held each Wednesday
lunchtime in the Chapel for about 30 minutes. This can
provide a quiet oasis amidst the busyness of the hospital.
This service takes different forms - everyone is welcome
to attend.
Muslim Daily Prayer:
The Hospital’s Muslim community has an allocated
space in the Chapel for daily prayer, and has a Friday
prayer meeting from 13.30 hrs until 14.00 hrs. All followers
are welcome to attend.
For staff only: arrangements can be made for prayer
groups to use the chapel.
