Inpatients and money

While you are in hospital, you will need only small amounts of money, to pay for things such as newspapers, telephone calls, and any items you buy from hospital shops or the ward trolley.

Please do not bring large sums of money with you. If it us unavoidable to do so, please give the money to your relatives to take home or to a member of the nursing staff, who will the money in the hospital safe. The member of staff will give you a receipt, which you must produce when you leave to reclaim the money. Large sums of money deposited in this way are always repaid by cheque. The Hospital regrets that it cannot accept any responsibility for the loss of property unless it has been handed over to staff in this way and a receipt obtained.

Valuable personal property

The Hospital cannot accept responsibility for valuable items brought in by patients, and such items are best left at home. If necessary, valuable or sentimental items can be consigned to the hospital safe, and patients wishing to do this must complete a form, which can be obtained from the ward staff.
