1. How can I become a volunteer at Addenbrooke's Hospital?

2. Can I receive an application form without coming to the Information Session?

No. The Information Session is designed as part of the application process. It enables both the volunteer and the hospital staff to meet and discuss the opportunities available at Addenbrooke’s, outline requirements, and assess whether there are any suitable opportunities available at that present time. We have found that as the application process is quite involved, the session ensures that neither party is unnecessarily disappointed after completing a lengthy application process. Please understand that our decision to introduce the information sessions does not in any way contradict our commitment to equal opportunities. We hope that by taking the time to meet you at the beginning of your application for voluntary work, you will ultimately enjoy a more fulfilling and appropriate volunteer experience.

7. Will I be working alone or with other volunteers?

As there are a variety of volunteer opportunities at Addenbrooke's Hospital it is sometimes possible to volunteer with a partner (for example the WRVS, the library trolley) or on a one to one basis with patients and their families or staff. Several meetings and social events are organised throughout the year, to enable you to meet other volunteers in the Hospital

Yes it is possible to volunteer in areas where there is little or no contact with patients. In these areas the focus is on supporting patients and their families indirectly by assisting the staff

9. Why does the process take so long?
Our organization provides services to vulnerable patients, and we have a moral, ethical and legal obligation to protect them. We also want to ensure that you are fully prepared to take on the duties of your volunteer position, and enjoy it. Therefore the process entails attending an information session, scheduling an interview, and completing a Health Questionnaire and Criminal Records Bureau Check. Applications can therefore take up to 3 months to complete.

10. I am not British, can I still apply?

Yes you can, however you need to have been in the country for at least 6 months in order for us to be able to process your application, and take up the appropriate references and Criminal Record Bureau check. We may also ask you to provide a criminal record clearance certificate from your home country.
