There are currently 25 dietitians working in the department, who are supported by three administration staff.

The department is split into specialist teams, in order to promote clinical development and attain highest quality clinical standards:

The Specialist:District General Hospital (DGH) ratio undertaken by the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics was assessed against the Department of Health’s (DH) own Specialised Services National Definition Set. 65% of our work was found to be specialist and much of our DH-defined non-specialist work is covered in an innovative way eg diabetes service: DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) and insulin pumps.

Our role as regional centre for expertise is continuing to increase. We are involved in the following groups:

  • East Anglian Renal Dietitians Interest Group

  • West Anglian Cancer Network

  • We have established a network of Dietetic Oncology contacts, with a view to forming a regional group.

  • Eastern Region Dietetic Advisory Group

  • British Dietetic Association specialist groups including Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition Group (PENG), Paediatric Group, Renal Nutritional Group, Nutritional Advisory Group for Elderly People (NAGE), Dietitians in HIV and AIDS (DHIVA).

Investors In People (IiP) Accreditation

In May 2003, Addenbrooke’s Department of Nutrition & Dietetics was re-accredited with IiP status. It first attained this status in December 1999. The majority of the ranking outcomes place the Department at level 3 which:

“Represents an organisation significantly exceeding the requirements of the Standard. The organisation will also be able to demonstrate that it uses self-review in order to improve its practice.”

The Staff at the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics at Addenbrooke's are committed to maintaining or improving upon this accolade.

  • All staff will be involved in the Department and Trust’s training programme in order to develop their skills and potential.

  • A formal induction will be provided for all employees.

Flexitime

An employee of the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics has some flexibility, within limits, with when to start and end their working day.

The normal working hours range from 0800 to 1800 hrs, the hours from 1000 to 1600 hrs represent the ‘core time' each day when the individual must be at work.

Uniform

All qualified dietitians and all administration staff wear the following as standard:

  • Black or Navy Trousers or Skirts (Suit jacket optional)

  • Purple collared short or long-sleeved shirt (provided).
